What is the major differences between a MacBook and an Ibook? How much memory should I look for in a computer?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

I am buying a computer, and I am interested in buying an Ibook but I want to know the major differences (good and bad) between the Ibook and MacBook. If you could offer a really dumbed down explanation that would be much appreciated. Technical specs really confuse me.

LOL

Don’t buy the Ibook, it is so old now, and they are soooo slow.

An iBook has alot less memory and less hard drive, it’s slow. It doesn’t have a camera or iLife ‘09

Buy a MacBook thay are way faster and are more new in other things. You can do alot of stuff with them. They come with 2GB or memory but you can upgrade to 4GB, and the hard drive can be upgraded to 320GB.

Mac owners…How can I access the information on an apple iBook that has a broken screen?

Friday, December 25th, 2009

I have an older iBook, one of the white ones. It’s screen is broken and cracked to a point where only a small portion of the entire screen is visible. The computer works fine otherwise. Now I’ve since purchased a newer computer, a silver Powerbook G4. Is there any way to connect/rig the screen of my old computer to my new one without accessing the prefrences of the old one? Or perhaps, does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can personally access/reach my old files? (aside from having the display replaced of course)

If your old Ibook has a FireWire port, you can connect a FireWire cable to that computer to your other one. Then press and hold the "T" key on the keyboard of your old computer while it’s starting up. The HD from your old computer should show on the G4. If this is confusing for you, please feel free to email me and I will email you a step-by-step explanation on how to do it. Good luck!

Dash Kits

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Dash kits are a unique way to add character and interest to a vehicle’s interior while maintaining the dash’s function and usefulness. With an assortment of options, the dash becomes personalized by the owner’s choices and sets it apart from the average look of the manufacturer’s dash. Dash kits can attach to the current dash, making installation simple.

There are numerous possibilities when making this change is a vehicle. Wood grain dash kits add a sophisticated look to the interior. Choose from real wood veneers, wood grain to match the manufacturer’s option and dash’s made from synthetic materials. Carbon fiber dash kits are another available option and much like the wood grain, add to the interior look of a vehicle. However, these dash kits create a sporty look and offer multiple color choices to add to the personalization.

When choosing a dash kit, CARid.com offers the largest selection. Most makes and models are represented and it is easy to navigate through the assortment of options. Selecting the car manufacturer is all it takes to pull up options for the vehicle. While the website is easy to use, its best feature is the competitive pricing which is always well below market cost.

How to set up my ibook to linksys wirelessly?

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

I bought a Ibook and I am trying to set this up to be wireless off the linksys router. My ibook has an airport card in it. I am new to ibook and am not sure how to set this up can anyone give me step by step how to get this going. I tried entering in the key code and password manually and nothing works please help….
i tried that it is not working
i tried all that but still does not find the linksys

Your iBook should just find the Linksys – there is virtualy no setting up to do.

1) You do not need any software.

2) Start by clicking on the airport icon on the menu bar (you should have one — it should look like a series of circular waves, on the right side by the time). Make sure it says Airport: On. Now see if the name of the Linksys router appears below where it says Airport: On. If it does, click on it, and you should either connect or be prompted for a password.

On the computer that’s connected to the router, type in the IP address of the router in a web browser. Usually it is 192.168.0.1 so if you don’t know, try that. You will be asked for a user name and password. If you don’t know what that is, then get the installation guide from the Linksys box and it should tell you what it is by default.

Once you’re in, the major change you may have to make is to set the router into the mode (may be called a "mixed" mode) in which both 802.11b and 802.11g devices can connect to it. If it’s in the g-only mode, it will not allow the iBook G3 to connect.

If you don’t have an airport icon in the menu bar, go to System Preferences (should be a white rectangular icon with an Apple logo in the dock), then select the Network Pane, and then click on the Assist Me button at the bottom and choose Assistant from the pop-up. That should help walk you through the process.

How can i retreive data from an ibook with a dead LogicBoard?

How can i retreive data from an ibook with a dead LogicBoard?
The logic board on my g3 Ibook went dead, I can hear the computer start up, but the display is not working. Is there a way to retrieve the data witout paying for a new logic board? Also I still have one working ibook, is there an easy way to combine the two, like using the hard drive of the defective ibook with the working computer screen display? Or is there any external hard drive that can extract data just by pluging it in the computer?

If your iBooks both have firewire ports, you can use Target Disk Mode to offload the ‘dead’ ibooks data onto the working iBooks hard drive if it has enough space to handle all the data.
If your iBook starts up try connecting it to a monitor or TV to see if it shows anything. If it does get an external drive and backup software to transfer the data to the external like SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner.
Last option that I know of, there might be more, is to remove the dead iBooks HDD and insert it to an external hard drive enclosure w/firewire ports. PPC Macs can boot off of external drives that have firewire ports, if the OS is installed in the drive, which the dead iBooks HDD has.

what is the best type of linux for a iBook G3 500Mhz?

Monday, December 14th, 2009

The Ibook has no OS and i need to know how to get the Linux OS over to it. I have a macbook.

Check whether it’s a powerpc processor or an intel processor
INTEL: Debian if you’re kind of a geek or don’t mind messing with things.. if you don’t mind spending a bit of time installing drivers… It’s very stable.
Linux Mint if you want ease of use. Based on Ubuntu, easier to use, more "out of the box": www.linuxmint.com
POWERPC: I’ve heard about yellow dog linux, and there’s a Ubuntu for powerpc.
Also, Debian is available on a lot of platforms, including powerpc.

How can i clear the data off my ibook that won’t turn on?

Friday, December 4th, 2009

I have an Ibook that won’t turn on that i want to sell. I wanted to know how to clear all the data off before i sell it incase that person does get it working, they won’t see all my files and such..?

Shanx!

Assuming you mean so bad it will not even turn on, not just won’t boot up completely: Congrats on selling a Laptop that won’t turn on. Take HD out. This solves your problem.
You could put a new/used one in the old computer, or give some bucks off for buyer to purchase whatever size HD they want purchase.

and/or: Buy an external enclosure ($10-20) for the HD you removed if you think it is not burned out. You can now access the HD from another computer if it is not burned out. This gives you the option of accessing all of your old files to save them if you want and then deleting everything on it.

You can now reinstall it in the sale computer and run the recovery disk if you want. If it boots up now, you can ask for more money. Or, you could keep the removed HD and go with the discount for no HD in the computer you sell idea.

an external HD for your new PC to store back-up files etc,
