Should I upgrade my old iBook or buy a new laptop?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I’ve had my Apple Ibook for 4 and a half years. It’s slowing down. If I change the RAM from its current 512MB to 1 gig and buy a new battery and recharging cable, it will cost nearly $500! Should I retire this machine and get a new MacBook? The replacement parts for the iBook are not easy to come by in the Philippines.

yes get the white macbook, unless you like the aluminum better

white ($999)

2.0 Ghz Core 2 Duo
2GB DDR2 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
120 GB HDD

Whats the difference between iMac and iBook? Which one would you suggest for a teenager?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I want to buy a laptop, bit i don’t much difference in between them. I know Ibook’s price is lower then iMac’s. That’s pretty much all… Help please!!!!!!

Well the most obvious difference is that the iMac is a desktop computer and the iBook (although old and out of production since 2005) is a Laptop which is why the price is MUCH lower. The current MacBooks start at $999 for the previous gen white plastic one and go up to $1299 for the latest unibody aluminuim MacBook (starting price)

I would suggest the $999 MacBook – why? Its still current, the iBook isn’t.

The current iMac is a slim all in one desktop computer

The MacBook also has the multi touch mouse pad

Macs run Microsoft Office:mac
or
iWork08 from Apple which works with MS office

All Macs can also run Windows with Bootcamp, VMware or Parallels which contrary to some opinions DOESN’T run Windows slowly.

You can also develop apps for the Mac or iPhone with the iPhone SDK

Or you can download OpenOffice3.0 which is native to Mac and FREE
- it works with MS Office too.

All Macs come with iLife08

How to reset a password on ibook without disk. Can you help?

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Im trying to reset a password on an Ibook, the os is mac os 9.1. Is it possible to reset the password without the original os disk?

Any disk with system software on it that you can start up from would work. If you have an old copy of Norton’s etc. If not, buy a copy on eBay, just make sure it is not computer specific.

How can I clear the hardrive of my broken iBook?

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

The problem is that I’m selling my old Apple Ibook online and I can’t erase the hardrive because it won’t turn on. If the person that I sell it to ends up fixing it, I don’t want them finding my files. What can I do?

Is the hard-drive broken?
If not, you should get the hard drive out try to find a computer to put it in, put it in the other computer, boot up, erase the files, put it back in your computer.

Or

Bring it to a computer shop so they can clear it.

If your computer won’t turn on you can’t really clear the hard drive. Also the problem may lie in the hard drive itself.

Picture Fun

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Ok – I usually don’t play around with software like this. Mostly because it’s a setup…you go to the site and they want your info, or you have to buy something. I had some real photofun with picjoke.com and it didn’t cost me anything. And everyday they ad a new photo effect!  If you want to have some real photo fun (or photofunia as they say in..I don’t know..where ever..I get paid for the link!) head on over to picjoke.com. It really is a blast. And I’m not just saying that cause they paid me to.
Here’s a few samples of the stuff I did (took two seconds!):

Here's one with the photo on a clear cellphone

How much fast will changing the memory chip in an ibook g4 make the computer?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

My Ibook g4 is mad slow and I am planning on changing the memory card out on it. But, the memory card is only 1gb so i cant se how it will make it any faster. Please tell what i need to do. Essentially I would like to clear all the programs off of it and completely clear out the memory. Please help. :)

Won’t make it any faster. That G4 is very old and completely obsolete. You should seriously consider just replacing it with a new computer.

How is the Apple iBook G4 different to the 13" Macbook?

Monday, January 11th, 2010

As in quality, specs and everything? The Apple Ibook I’ve seen for less than £300 on eBay, but I can hopefully get a discount on the Macbook. Which one should i go for?

Go for the Macbook. It’ll cost more but for the extra money you get a much more advanced Laptop. The new ones will have the following advantages:

- 7 hour battery, LED backlit screen, unibody construction (one piece for the base), glass trackpad, multitouch track pad (up to 4 finger gestures), faster processors, more and faster RAM, more hard drive space, runs MacOS Snow Leopard (and newer), non-slip bottom, faster wireless card, Boot Camp lets you install Windows if you want (Virtualbox will let you run Windows inside MacOS)

How to connect my laptop to my wireless printer without going through a router?

Friday, January 8th, 2010

I have a new wireless printer. I connected it fine to my laptop at home running Vista, but can’t get it to connect to the Laptop in the office running Windows XP. I connect to the internet via a Three dongle, and don’t have a router in the office.

So 2 questions really – is it possible to connect my XP-laptop to the printer – and if so – how?

I’ve read a bit about ad-hoc networks, but can’t work it out!

no you cant

You need a router and connect the printer and the laptop to the same network
