How can I adjust the screen backlight on my ibook?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

I have an Ibook g3 with mac 10.4.11 on it, and then screen is starting to go dimmer on me. I realize its probably a part, but before I go replacing anything I want to try adjusting it and see if that helps any.

Have you tried the brightness buttons on the keyboard? There are more brightness settings under "System Preferences" -> "Displays"

Hooking up a monitor to a ibook G4 with a broken screen?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

My Ibook G4 has fallen and the screen is now only usefull/visible at the top left corner. I heard that there is some sort of cable to hook up another computer monitor via USB or something. Does any one know anything about this and could you help me out?

You do not require any additional cables. The monitor should have a cable coming out of it that will connect to the back of the G4 laptop. Depending on which type of monitor it is, it may not work with that G4.

Refer to this webpage:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86283
Depending on what picture looks like the back of YOUR g4, you might either have a VGA port or a DVI port. LCD monitors commonly use the DVI port, while CRT monitors use the VGA port.

However, Laptops do not usually start using monitors automatically. Usually they require a keystroke to activate sending data to the monitor. I’m unsure what this keystroke is on the Powerbook.

How do I install RAM on my Apple iBook g4?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I just bought a stick of RAM for my Apple Ibook G4 that is several years old.
I would very much appreciate very detailed step-by-step instructions on how to install this RAM.
Assume that I am computer illiterate.
thank you!

It’s easy, just don’t static shock your ram, so ground yourself

You do need a tiny little philips head screw driver though

What is the best service i can get for an ibook G4?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

I am currently buying an Ibook G4, but i don’t know how I can get internet on it. What is the best servicce i could use to get internet on my ibook. I could use WI-FI but i need a service that can give me internet anywhere outside home. What is the best service i can get and how do i get it?

You do know that an iBook G4 is at last 5 years old? It should have an Airport card in it for you regular wireless, most likely it is a "b" type wireless card, at best you can put a "g" in it. You can check eBay for used ones if yours doesn’t have one it it. If you have a wireless router in your home, you can use it there. You could also use it at places like libraries, motels, coffee shops, McDonalds etc. If you want to use it "on the road" you will need a cell phone wireless usb adaptor. It plugs into one of the USB ports on the Ibook. Places like AT& T and Verizon will give you one free but you have to sign up for a 2 year service package at about $40 a month.
If you want to get a couple more years service on the iBook, upgrade the system software to MacOS X 10.4 (Tiger) and make sure you have at least 1 gb of ram. It may take Tiger to get a cell phone usb adaptor to work. You’ll probably also need a new battery, skip eBay, most batteries there are knockoffs and can damage your Mac.

How do clear up memory on an old iBook G4?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

I have an Ibook G4 that is a few years old. It has a 60 GB hard drive. I have about 3GB of music on it and 3GB of pictures on it. That’s about it. I would like to know how to either find out where all the memory has gone and/or figure out how to clean up all of the space that is being used for something that I don’t know what.

Use one of these programs to see what is using up space on your HDD.

Caches and logs tend to accumulate over time if you haven’t cleared them along with emptying Trash.

Is Leopard compatible with the iBook G4?

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

I now have an Ibook G4 and would like to get Leopard on it.
Is that possible and/or how expensive would it be?

Yes it is. System requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
512MB of memory
DVD drive for installation
9GB of available disk space

Consider bumping your iBook up to 1GB of memory, and you should be good.

Available from Amazon for $110

How do I find the uninstall Skype on my iBook G4 laptop?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

I have an Ibook G4 Laptop — I cannot find a control panel where I can uninstall Skype. I have looked under File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Window & Help. I am using Firefox. I made a mistake when installing Skype and I can neither uninstall it or correct it — I cannot even get past the sign in because they do not recognize my e-mail —— frustrating.

Friday, February 5th, 2010

I have an Xbox 360 Arcade with a wireless controller, 2 games (midnight club LA and forza 2 motorsport), and all cables and a memory card.

Someone wants to trade for an Ibook G4 1.33GHz 512mb of ram
Mac OS X 10.3.

Is this trade worth it?

no, keep the 360.
