How much is an iMac G3 worth these days?
Friday, November 20th, 2009I mean like, can I upgrade to a newer iMac g4 or somethin i dont know i just want a new computer and i have an iMac G3 and it’s Mac OS X 10.1 but i want something better
It depends on how you value things. If you want to value something you already have, the value is either what you could sell it for, or the cost of replacing or improving it.
If you want to see the options for upgrading that old G3, look into the lowendmac site.
If you want to replace it, the value of your machine becomes pegged to the cost of a new machine (which also depends on what you want to get) less the improved performance. Cost of the new machine would also include the cost of new software.
If you have a machine that works, why replace it?

Fried iMac G3- any idea what is the problem?
There’s this old iMac G3 (indigo, slot-loading) at my high school that I’ve been eyeing for quite some time. I already have a computer, I just want it basically to have one (because they just look so cute) and to put OS X Tiger on it and get acquainted with Mac OS (I’m a Mac virgin.) A few days ago I noticed it had a “RIP” sticker on its screen, so I might have a chance to get it free if the school chooses to dispose of it. However I talked to someone who had used it and he said he tried to run an application on it that was too much work for the machine, and “the screen went white, the speakers buzzed, and smoke came out.” And the machine hasn’t powered on since. Does anyone out there know what could be wrong, and if so, how to fix this? I’m a PC expert but I know nothing about Macs. Is it even possible to fix? Worth it to get that computer?
No, it’s worth less than it will cost to fix. Either get the iMac from ebay, or from this website: http://www.dvwarehouse.com/Apple-Desktop-c-253_5232.html&pltid=d052ace1aa9326574d6dc908e4fb23c9
If you get it from ebay, the warranty will be void, but if you get it from the above reseller, you will still have the warranty.
Hope this helps.
