Or is it not that the software is new but that there’s something wrong with his computer?

Yes, it’s most likely the operating system is too old AND you don’t have enough RAM to properly run Photoshop. I’d suggest looking into whether Photoshop Elements will run. Certainly Photoshop CS2 will run fine. (And I would also suggest that you purchase a legal copy, not download through torrents or whatever for two reasons: illegal [software piracy] and probably junk.)

No, there is not one step. Can you parallel park in one step? You also need to decide if you should make a backup of any of the installed applications. Here are all the steps:

Buy an external hard drive that is either (1) at least as large as the iBook hard drive (if you want to back up not only your created documents and downloads, but also applications you installed), or (2) as large as the iBook’s Users folder (if you only need to backup files you created). Connect it to the iBook. Open a Finder window and change the view to column. If your need is for (1), select all the folders in the first column and drag them to the external hard drive icon. Take a long break. If your need is for (2), drag only the Users folder to the external hard drive icon. Take a long break, but not as long as the one for (1).

No its not. Garage Band required a G5 processor on its first release. The latest version requires an Intel Processor.

If that does not work, then start it up from the install CD by holding the C key down when it starts, then go under the file menu and use the disk utility to repair permissions, verify disc etc.

How can I adjust the screen backlight on my ibook?

I have an ibook g3 with mac 10.4.11 on it, and then screen is starting to go dimmer on me. I realize its probably a part, but before I go replacing anything I want to try adjusting it and see if that helps any.

Have you tried the brightness buttons on the keyboard? There are more brightness settings under “System Preferences” -> “Displays”

I am currently buying an ibook G4, but i don’t know how I can get internet on it. What is the best servicce i could use to get internet on my ibook. I could use WI-FI but i need a service that can give me internet anywhere outside home. What is the best service i can get and how do i get it?

You do know that an iBook G4 is at last 5 years old? It should have an Airport card in it for you regular wireless, most likely it is a "b" type wireless card, at best you can put a "g" in it. You can check eBay for used ones if yours doesn’t have one it it. If you have a wireless router in your home, you can use it there. You could also use it at places like libraries, motels, coffee shops, McDonalds etc. If you want to use it "on the road" you will need a cell phone wireless usb adaptor. It plugs into one of the USB ports on the iBook. Places like AT& T and Verizon will give you one free but you have to sign up for a 2 year service package at about $40 a month.
If you want to get a couple more years service on the Ibook, upgrade the system software to MacOS X 10.4 (Tiger) and make sure you have at least 1 gb of ram. It may take Tiger to get a cell phone usb adaptor to work. You’ll probably also need a new battery, skip eBay, most batteries there are knockoffs and can damage your Mac.
