My boyfriend wants photoshop for his Ibook G4, so we tried downloading CS5, and CS4, and neither work. They won’t install for some reason, and we figured his operating system is too old. He has 10.5.9 or something, Leopard. What version of photoshop will work on this? Or is it not that the software is new but that there’s something wrong with his computer?

Yes, it’s most likely the operating system is too old AND you don’t have enough RAM to properly run Photoshop. I’d suggest looking into whether Photoshop Elements will run. Certainly Photoshop CS2 will run fine. (And I would also suggest that you purchase a legal copy, not download through torrents or whatever for two reasons: illegal [software piracy] and probably junk.)

I have an ibook that does not have the reinstall disk. Is there a away to reset it without the disk. Would an eMac or an Macbook reinstall disk work on it?

You could use the other Mac disk to start up the Ibook and access the accounts section to change the password. Most likely though, it won’ install. You need a MacOS X disk if it is running MacOS X. Most eMacs are running MacOS 9.

No its not. Garage Band required a G5 processor on its first release. The latest version requires an Intel Processor.

I have had this problem before too. I have turned my mac off. Left it alone for a couple of minutes then started it back up, sometimes it has taken 10 minutes to catch. If that does not work, then start it up from the install CD by holding the C key down when it starts, then go under the file menu and use the disk utility to repair permissions, verify disc etc.

You do know that an iBook G4 is at last 5 years old? It should have an Airport card in it for you regular wireless, most likely it is a “b” type wireless card, at best you can put a “g” in it. You can check eBay for used ones if yours doesn’t have one it it. If you have a wireless router in your home, you can use it there. You could also use it at places like libraries, motels, coffee shops, McDonalds etc. If you want to use it “on the road” you will need a cell phone wireless usb adaptor. It plugs into one of the USB ports on the iBook. Places like AT& T and Verizon will give you one free but you have to sign up for a 2 year service package at about $40 a month.
If you want to get a couple more years service on the iBook, upgrade the system software to MacOS X 10.4 (Tiger) and make sure you have at least 1 gb of ram. It may take Tiger to get a cell phone usb adaptor to work. You’ll probably also need a new battery, skip eBay, most batteries there are knockoffs and can damage your Mac.
