My last business trip I carried my laptop, an LCD projector, a 2 way radio, and my mobile phone. The only one who cared how much electronic junk I was carrying was security when they wanted to test for bomb residue (Irish Terrorist) and if my laptop works. One of my colleagues regularly travels with at least 2 Laptops and sometimes 3 domestically and has never had a problem except for paying for extra baggage (the boss hates when we do that). For my two cents worth Indian customs may have a problem with it BUT most likely they won’t .

I want to know how many laptops are allowed per head when we are travelling from US to India. I have to carry two laptops with me. So can some one tell me, if it is allowed to carry more than one laptop? I doubt if the US customs or India customs will object if I carry two. as many as you can carry. You have a weight allowance and it is up to you to use it, the airlines don’t care what you have as long as it meets the regulations

Can you give me tips on how to keep your laptop working like it’s “NEW”?

What I mean is how to keep it working fast and encountering no problems at all. Just give me some words of advice. You can include concerns and worries? Yes.

Use a good anti-virus program, a good malware detection program and a good registry checker and also a good firewall.

Even though some software manufacturers claim that they can do each of these by themselves, I seem to always recall the story of the kid that liked to blow his own horn, only to find that he was playing out of tune.

There are many programs that you can choose from but I definitely try to stay away from those that sell you software that is good for only one year. I can see them only offering support for one year but unless they are going out of business at the end of that year, if I buy their program, I expect it to keep working even without updates, for more than a year. For that reason I would never recommend any product made by Norton. A friend of mine bought the program “Norton 360″ and it stopped working on the 366th day after he installed it on his computer.

I personally use CCleaner for a registry cleaner and malware removal, Ad-Aware for more malware removal and I use AVG for my anti-virus program. For my firewall I use the one that comes with windows defender.

Each of these programs are free.

After I use my computer, I run each of them (except for windows defender). If you want, you can schedule each of them to run at a preset time, like in the middle of the night when you are sleeping.

If you are using Windows, and your computer is turned on and Windows firewall is turned on then you are using one of the best software firewalls available.

Of course you can use any program you want, but never turn your computer off without running these programs first. If you have updates to install, al least run CCleaner before you let the update reboot your computer. assembling

I have a laptop and want to connect to another laptop. Both have wireless access to the internet, but for some reason can’t seem to sort out getting a LAN connection to each other, or a direct connection to each other.

You can connect using the wireless router that both laptops use.

You must ensure that both computers are using the same network name.

The default name for Windows is either WORKGROUP or MSHOME.

Check both computers by:

Start >> Control Panel >> Performance and Maintenance .. now click the SYSTEM icon.

In this window click the “Computer Name” tab at the top.

In this window it’ll tell you the workgroup name for this computer.

Do the same check on the other computer to ensure it’s using the same workgroup name.

Then you open up the “Network Places” and you should see each others shared files.

On the other laptop add a printer. Browse the network for the printer connected to the main computer. Install it. The laptop can now print to the printer on the main laptop.

Be aware that Vista takes a little time to recognize the printer (every time you print), then takes a little time to send the print job.

So, I somehow managed to share my printer using the network that connects my desktop and laptop. They are BOTH VISTA. However, I do not know how to share files/folders between the two computers using the network. I have already enabled both computers to be able to share files and public folder sharing.

Open “My Computer” window. If the sharing is all enabled properly, under “Network Places” you should be able to see the other computer and its files. Just drag and drop files or folders with the mouse in the usual way.

These 2 laptops are going into my hand carry bag which is a medium sized luggage. You are right about how it will take long at the security checks. I’d have to take both out & put it back in. If I have to do that to protect them both, then I will. It’s worth it. I don’t want them broken.

Also, I’m not much of a gamer or a movie watcher – so laptops with lots of space for video games or DVDs probably wouldn’t suit me.

Here’s why you should get a Mac:: There are NO CONS. The MacBook does both WinBloze and OSX, no other computer can make that statement. You have the best of the best. Apple Stores are popping up all over and you can make an appointment for a time and date, bring your computer there. They will troubleshoot it and fix it if it’s a software problem it’s FREE. What other computer company has stores and can make that statement? Get the 2.4 GHz with 4Gigs Ram and you got a speed machine like mine. The WinBloze people may not like a Mac computer but I’ll bet they all have iPods. Go Mac and Never Go Back. Mac, the User Friendly Computer.
If you read the questions here you will notice that most problems are about every computer except a Mac.

I am entering Fall ‘07 and beginning the great laptop search. I have done some in-store looking, but the only brands that I really know of are HP and Dell and I would like to know about other lesser known brands.

You cannot go wrong with an IBM Thinkpad. I own one and it is an impressive and well built machine. The Thinkpad’s aren’t flashy looking like most of the other junk that is out there, and they are still a very nice looking laptop. Look at IBM’s website for a particular model number that meets your needs.
