Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

My friend just gave me their old logitech quickcam camera and i installed the software but its not registering on my Powerbook G4. Like ill try to start iChat or open even QuickCapture and it says i dont have a camera hooked up….and it is plugged in (i checked lol) Do u know how i can fix this? i dont speak geek speak..

Hi Lanah…if you’ve downloaded the most updated drivers and this still isn’t working consider trying Macam: http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/

macam is a driver for USB webcams on Mac OS X. It allows hundreds of USB webcams to be used by many Mac OS X video-aware applications. The aim is to support as many webcams as possible.

In addition, macam also supports downloading of images from some dual-mode cameras. macam especially tries to support those cameras not supported by Apple or by their manufacturers.

macam consist of an application and a component. Run the macam application to verify whether your camera works with your Mac and your USB setup.

Why is my Apple Powerbook G4 screen not working?

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

I have a 15" Powerbook G4, 800mhz, 40gb, 512mb laptop. When I turn it on it boots with a bright white screen without an apple logo on it. The laptop doesn’t go past the white screen. This started happening after a hinge on the screen was replaced. What could be preventing my Laptop from having the screen working?

The screen’s power and data cables run through the hinges, and this sounds like the data cable. Most likely this means that they either forgot to reconnect the cable when they replaced the hinge or it’s been damaged and is grounding out to the frame. If it worked briefly after your got it back then it’s probably pinched between two parts & the opening & closing of the screen has either damaged it or severed it. The only solution would be to have it taken apart and the cable checked.

There is a slim possibility that the two are unrelated… but it would surprise me…

How much should I sell my 12” Powerbook G4 that is both fair to me and to the buyer?

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

I have a 12 inch Mac Powerbook G4 Laptop that I may sell. I have had it for more than a year. It has an 80 GB Hard Drive. 1.25 GB of RAM. 1.5 GHz Processor. It also comes equipped with:

1. Dreamweaver 8
2. Adobe Flash 8 Professional
3. Microsoft Office 2004 Bundle (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Entourage)
4. Reason 3.0
5. Adobe Photoshop 7.0
6. An iTunes library with 6,000+ songs.

How much is a reasonable selling price that will not sell myself short but not rip off the buyer?

Well, that depends on how much it has been used. For every year of use, you should subtract $500-$1000, depending on the amount of damage, if any. Sounds like you spent a ton on it, I’d sell it on eBay with the starting price:

Original price-(years of use X $500)+current cost of software already installed+How much it cost to buy 6000 songs

What will I need to update my powerbook G4?

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Ok so I want to update my Powerbook g4 up to leopard I was wondering what will I need?

You shouldn’t really NEED anything, but it would be of benefit to upgrade at least your RAM. It’s super cheap these days. Max out your RAM for a faster and smoother experience.

You can find a good guide to Mac RAM here – http://guides.macrumors.com/Buying_RAM

How can I remove a dent on a Powerbook g4?

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

I found a dent dent on my new 17 inch Powerbook G4. It is not very deep but covers a large part of the computer. It is under the apple on the front of the computer. Is there any way to remove this dent?

This ranges from very difficult to nearly impossible. It would involve taking your Laptop to bits which would violate the warranty. You’ll need to somehow get to the dent and push it out (like done on a car with a small dent). I’d forget it, you’re more likely to break it by taking it apart.

How do I clean the hardrive on my powerbook G4?

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

I have a Powerbook G4 that runs on Mac OS X and I’m selling it, the problem is that I don’t know how to prepare it for sale.I have the 2 startup disks, and I’ve been having trouble connecting to the internet with it.I’m assuming once I can connect to the internet I can update it as well. What should I do?

Startup from the Install Disks, by inserting Disk 1, and restarting, and holding down the "C" key until the desktop comes up.

Use "Disk Utility" to erase & repair the internal Hard Drive.

Use the Install to reinstall the Operating System.

Hook up to the INet, and use Software Update to update the System.

Hope this helps.
