Can you put leopard on a powermac g4 quicksilver?

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

i want to get my first mac and i love the Powermac g4 quicksilver. That is all I can buy at the moment so I want to know if I can put the latest version of mac os x. If someone can give me a answer I would love that.

The Apple PowerMac G4 Quicksilver, DOES support the latest OS,(Leopard 10.5).

Just make sure your G4 meets these requirements:

~PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
~ 512MB of memory
~DVD drive for installation
~9GB of available disk space

What is the best 1 TB triple interface External Hard Drive for a pre-Intel Apple Powermac 2.0?

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Was looking into the Western Digital WDH1Q10000N MyBook Studio 1TB External Hard Drive – 7200, 8MB, USB 2.0, FireWire 800, eSATA but read quite a few negative reviews. Speed is important! So looking at Firewire.

I would recommend a LaCie product. They are both cheep and fairly good quality.

is there anyway i can find a powermac g4 desktop new in 2009?

Friday, November 20th, 2009

ive wanted a mac 4 awhile but the prices are insane but today i saw a power g4 on buy.com (old add) but theye look and sound nice and really want a new one can anyone give me like an online computer surplus store that would have one?

You won’t be able to find a Powermac G4 that’s brand new (as in never used), however you can find them 2nd hand and/or refurbished on sites like ebay.

I don’t know whether this link will work but here goes:

Hope that helps!

which cable in a powermac g4 powers the hardrive?

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

I just got a 700mhz powermac g4 with no hard drive. there seems to be loads of marked cables (p1,p2 etc etc) but which one powers the hard drive? thanks
My problem is is there is about six of the four pronged things.

Any of them – you can fit multiple hard drives in a Powermac G4 case – I had three in my last one.

Can I Run Oblivion 4 on a Powermac G4 with a windows partition?

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

I just found out I had a (I guess) good graphics card on my old powermac g4. I play Oblivion and can’t run it on any other computers and Oldblivion always quits on me. Can I run oblivion on the G4

I wouldn’t bother. The G4 Powermac is not that fast and its pretty old. You are better off getting an Intel iMac or MacPro with a new graphics card and booting in Bootcamp.

Mac Pro or iMac for home use? Shall I sell my Powermac g5 and home cinema screen?

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

I normally mess about with pictures, play games and play games on the web
I want the mac pro because you can plug a console in
I like the iMac beecause its good for gaming
I already have 2 Laptops and I share another 4 that = 6
Shall I sell mac powermac g5 and 30 inch screen or shall I keep it?

The Mac Pro can play games. The Mac Pro is a beast of a computer. Its a great machine through and through. It might be overkill for your needs, but if you can afford it, you won’t go wrong with the purchase.

The iMac is a very strong computer, so if you want to save some money, its a great choice. If you need to be able to customize the guts of your computer more then yah okay jump up to the Mac Pro. But for everything you describe, I think the iMac would be more than sufficient to handle what you need. The 24" model is absolutely gorgeous.

Sell the Powermac. The G5 (pre-Intel) machines are just so slow now. I would totally give up on one of those at this point in time. Intel Laptops can outperform them quite handily.

But the 30" screen, unless you’ve ruined it, would still be great to keep around. Use it for another computer. If you have a MacBook Pro, it can handle outputting to that. Or if you go wit h the Mac Pro, then its a prefect option for that. I’d take my 30" screen all the way until it dies. That’s a beauty of a monitor.
