I am getting a Laptop next week and want to know if i can connect it to my home internet. I have aol wireless broadband, will it cost me any extra to add a laptop? Is it easy to connect, the new laptop will have WIFI.

It wont cost anything extra, but you have to know the code to let it install , if it is set up as a secure network. If it isnt secure, it will just install itself, when you choose the network that is in your home. The code , if it hasnt been changed will be the 13 digit number on the bottom of your wireless transmitter.
Your isp may have a limit as to how many computers you can use simultaniously, tho.

How do i add a laptop to my home internet?
How do I add a Wireless Router to my current wired network?

I just got a new laptop with a wireless connection but the company I work for does not have a wireless router. This is the best I can describe the network: They have several switches connected to a fortinet firewall and they use windows 2003 server. I think they have a T1 line for internet, not sure on models of the routers and switches. I need to be able to use my laptop as if I was wired to the network, need internet and server connections. I have a Linksys WRT54G Router that I use at home, can I use something like that on my work network? What about a WAP? (We don’t have an IT person anymore and he left the network in a very bad way, any help would be appreciated! btw, I do have access to all passwords and things for the current network, I’m just not sure the best way to describe what we have.) I need to know the best location (i.e. before firewall, after router) to connect the wireless router, and what configurations I need to make it work.

Very easy.

First : Purshase your wirless router
Second: replace your wrired router with your wireless router
Plug your cat5 into the back of your new wireless
the same way you had it on your wired router.
Most wireless routers comes with an installation CD I recommend using it.

You can also use the gateway installation address which should start with 192.1 etc.. the full address should be in your
manual who comes with the CD installation.

I recommend WEP it is easier . WAP is more secure but requires more time to setup , also WAP sometimes requires more troubleshooting. I will go to WEP and change WEP password every 3 months.

It’s extremely easy. Just turn the laptop on and use whatever network manager you like (Windows Explorer is fine, if you use Windows) to connect to your wifi network and you’re done.

EDIT: And no, it’s not going to cost anything additional. If your ISP tells you that it will, they’re just being deceptive. There’s no way for them to know that you have a home network anyway, so even if it does violate TOS — which I seriously doubt — they won’t find out.

    VERY,VERY,VERY simple.
    No cost.

Turn on the wifi(button on laptop)(usually leave it on),
    search for networks,
    find your network,
type in the password(if you have one)
    connect!

Once you have done your laptop will automaticly connect when the network is in range, with you wifi on of course.

? get a wired / wireless NAT Security router

? the internet plugs into one specific plug on the router
? your main PC uses a wired port with ethernet cable
? your Laptop can use either the WiFi or a wired port also

? The router assigns the IP Addresses to the computers and acts as the internet gateway

? this way your machines can be simultaneously connected and are hidden behind the router sharing the AOL IP Address
