My Compaq laptop has a configuration of Pentium dual core , 2GB ram, 160 gb. Im using a reliance wireless broadband connection and the speed is very very very slow! . When checking out the wireless device on other Laptops the speed is considerably fast. Im not expertised in this field so might not use technical terms. Do I have to upgrade the speed of my Laptop? To what extent, so that my net speed is fast?

Net speed has nothing to do with the speed of your laptop.

It’s probably a virus on your laptop if it’s considerably slowing down your internet speed.

Run a decent anti-virus.

If that doesn’t work, contact your ISP

How do I upgrade my laptop to increase the internet speed?
How do I lower the ping on my computer and increase my internet speed?

I use a linksys router to connect to xanadoo. Then my laptop connects wireless to my router. I think I am just barely to slow. How do I increase the speed?

P.S. I know that upgrading will help but, I want to hear other options.
If I connect directly to the router with a cable, will that help?

a wireless connection is always going to go slower then a wired connection, but everything on your side of the wire depends on the wire you use(for example your ethernet cable) has a minimal affect on your connection, on the other side of the router (that is your internet provider) i assume that is xanadoo effects how fast you can send data to and receive data from web servers. but for your actual computer i recommend clearing your temporary files and cookies and such often, and making sure that you are running fairly new hardware

Ok I’m not an expert as well, but i had the same problem with my iMac
when u add more RAM it helps a lot, also try to use a cable instead of wireless this can help.

i haven’t figured what was the problem with mine but now i use another network which works much much better.

maybe some networks don’t go well with some computers.. who knows!

hope this helped in a way :)

The configuration of your laptop is not the reason for your slow internet speed. By reliance wireless broad band if you mean a reliance data card and if you have an old model dont compare them with the current model cards. Old models connect at 200+ Kbps and give an average throughput of not more than 70 Kbps.

But current generation Datacards are capable of 3 Mbps. If you find a solution in this then change your datacard.

If you don’t find a solution, try installing a Internet Speed meter like Dumeter on your laptop which can be downloaded from http://www.download.com. This would show your realtime internet utilization.

You should also keep your operating system up-to-date and install a good antivirus and anti-spyware to get good speeds. If you have spyware in your system they might be killing your internet speed. You can refer to my blog http://www.sunilsaripalli.com for more ways to speed your internet connection.

Three things are involved in how fast you can download any thing from the internet.
    1) The input/output speed of your modem.
    2) The input/output speed of the websites modem
    3) How many people have logged on to the website and are trying to download something at the same time.

I have a 3.6 Mbps modem most of the time if will only download at 56 Kbps, sometimes faster and sometimes slower. It took 2 hours to download the BBC Iplayer.

Perform regular computer scans to remove virus and other things which can slow down the system’s performance. Also, try a program which can speed up internet speed like this one: http://huwatisdis.blogspot.com/2009/06/free-internet-speed-booster.html
