I have an eMac (700mhz) with 256mb ram running mac OS X Tiger. I am thinking of purchasing an additional 512mb of ram so it would have a total of 768mb of ram. I am wondering how much of a difference, if any, this upgrade will make to the performance of my computer. Thanks for any help.
well if u do that u need a new processer that has more mhz which will turn it to gigaherz and a new display driver etc etc that can support these so it would be alot of money but be alot faster BUT NOT WORTH IT, only upgrade if u have windows macs dont particularly need it
How much faster would my eMac be with an extra 512mb of ram?

Macs are famous for needing a fraction of the RAM that Windows PC’s need – so you would possibly be wasting your money – have you asked this question on any of the Mac support forums?

Upgrading your RAM is beneficially for computers in terms of multitasking and system effectiveness.
As far as your case I don’t see an extra 512mb of Ram being beneficial. eMacs and imacs use laptop parts to keep size small. In turn, those parts cost more for simple upgrades.
512mb of Ram on crucial.com goes for $60 bucks, To be frank, I would save that and opt for a refurbished or used newer imac that will probably blow you mind after your emac.
We have that same emac here at work, and only really use it for a web browser.
