My Ibook g4 is mad slow and I am planning on changing the memory card out on it. But, the memory card is only 1gb so i cant se how it will make it any faster. Please tell what i need to do. Essentially I would like to clear all the programs off of it and completely clear out the memory. Please help. 
Won’t make it any faster. That G4 is very old and completely obsolete. You should seriously consider just replacing it with a new computer.
