Memory only store …
Memory only store information while there is power going to the module. Once power is disconnected then all information is cleared. So you shouldn’t lose anything when upgrading memory.

you forgot …
you forgot something very important if possible alway use an anti static wrist strap and change your ram in a uncarpeted area to avoid any more static build up and alway hold ram by its edges never touch the pins at the bottom i dont think anyone wants stand in line for 10 minutes to buy ram then go home and destroy their ram in les than a second lol

That could be due …
That could be due to a bad memory module. I would try the new modules one at a time to see if they are functioning correctly.
