My boyfriend was given an old laptop in work. The previous owner of the laptop no longer works with the company but the Laptop still uses his sign in details. Username and password needed. Without these we dont seem to be able to sign in. Any tips? or should the laptop go in the bin?

If it’s the companies property then get their techs (if they have them) to get into it.

If you can’t get techs to do it and it’s running Windows XP, then just boot it up in safe mode and go into the administrator account, then go to user management and remove the password.

There are a few ways to do it on XP but your best off getting someone to do it for you rather than following instructions.

What would work better for a college student Ibook g3 (600mhz 60gb 640mb ram) or Toshiba Satellite Ac15?

Windows. If you really want to run Mac then go for FreeBSD, same shit, and it is free.

No need in paying for a less secure linux machine. That’s stupid. That’s Mac.

I have an Ibook G4 with 256 mb of memory. Will upgrading it to 512 increase the speed of my Ibook?

To tell you the truth, more memory doesn’t make a comp faster – it just makes it better at doing more stuff at once. So if you just want to speed up games or internet browsing, it wont help. But if you want to run multiple programs or something like Photoshop, which does a LOT of things at the same time, then yes, memory would be great. My advice though would just be to upgrade the Laptop.

I was doing a software update and my computer died during it. I’ll turn the Ibook on, everything will boot up, but it gets stuck on the apple logo screen where it has the loading icon. What do I do?

I have had this problem before too. I have turned my mac off. Left it alone for a couple of minutes then started it back up, sometimes it has taken 10 minutes to catch. If that does not work, then start it up from the install CD by holding the C key down when it starts, then go under the file menu and use the disk utility to repair permissions, verify disc etc.

Soon, I will be attending college (I know, it starts late). I will be commuting by train to and from school everyday. I need a backpack that I can carry my books and laptop in. It has to be well built and safe for my laptop. My Laptop is a 15.6" Dell Studio. What would be a good backpack. Thanks.

Oh I just answered to similar question before two minutes.

If you are in college than I think you must not carry that bore and black general laptop bags.

Here are some laptop computer cases which can speak your style and about you as well. Searched a bit and found it … see the source for photos …

I’m thinking of buying a Alienware Aurora(PC) or an Alienware Mx15 (laptop). I have an Acer aspire but, its not enough. I’m a gamer and I need higher gaming performance. I play varies of PC games on my laptop but, its not a gaming laptop. I play World of Warcraft (Yeah its a little minty) and my laptop just doesnt do it.

Well, one’s a laptop and the other’s a desktop. For future reference, a laptop also qualifies as a "PC" (Personal Computer)… what you mean was a "desktop" vs a "laptop".

Anyway, a Laptop’s only advantage is that it’s portable. For all other things (performance, upgradability, cost, customizability, etc) a desktop is better.

I am currently looking for a good Laptop to take with me to college next year. I looked at some Dell laptops and like what I see except for the poor battery life that many people complain about. Does any laptop brand have this problem or is it just Dell?

Hope you’ll find this answer useful…

I have two Laptops. Laptop A is my home laptop that is in some Home workspace. Another laptop B is my work Laptop that is my corporate domain. When I bring laptop B to home – there is no domain controller. So when I’m trying to access B from A it says that you can’t do that since there is no domain controller. I just want to share a printer that is connected to B. Is there a way to still doing that?
Question: What is KVM?

If you want to share printers, just use a KVM switch.

I bought the Aspire 6930 Laptop from Acer. The Computer is great, however I have been unable to find a bag that is meant to carry Laptops that is of a correct size. The laptop has a 16" screen. Help?

Go Acer! There a a lot of excellent options for laptop and netbook cases out there. I found the Caselogic ZNCS-116 Slimline 16-Inch Laptop Briefcase (Black) on sale online.
There is a backpack style case available for under $6 at amazon.
Hope that helps.
