I’ve had my Apple iBook for 4 and a half years. It’s slowing down. If I change the RAM from its current 512MB to 1 gig and buy a new battery and recharging cable, it will cost nearly $500! Should I retire this machine and get a new MacBook? The replacement parts for the iBook are not easy to come by in the Philippines.

yes get the white macbook, unless you like the aluminum better

white ($999)

2.0 Ghz Core 2 Duo
2GB DDR2 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
120 GB HDD

Should I upgrade my old iBook or buy a new Laptop?
for Ilife 06/08 should i get used Pismo Powerbook? Macbook? Ibook?

want to get Ilife either 2006 or 2008 and deciding which machine should i go for. My sister can help rebuild the computer so should I get a 500mhz Pismo Powerbook or get an AS-IS macbook that would have to get upgraded? Would an older Ibook suffice? We’re trying to keep it under 500 and buying new is too expensive.

The main goals for the apple laptop is making movies, photos, web surfing, and word processing… in that order.
would a G4 ibook be ok for it? as long as it has 1Gmhz in speed?

The Pismo (or an iBook G3 clamshell) is too old and slow to be worth investing in.

If you can get a used MacBook, that would be best.

An iBook G4 may do for iLife 2006, not so well for 2008, it just barely squeaks into the requirements – performance will be poor.

iLife 08 requirements
# Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 processor.
# iMovie requires a Mac with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster).
# iDVD requires a 733MHz or faster processor.
# 512MB of RAM; 1GB recommended. High-definition video requires at least 1GB of RAM.
# Mac OS X v10.4.11 or later.
