Powerbook G4 12″ Unboxing

Here’s my new PowerBook! Even though I love my little G4, it needs to shape up in the power department! My battery goes wakko (Animaniac geeks will laugh at that) all the time and the power adapter rarely charges the computer. So I’m probably going to be taking my little G4 in to my Apple Authorized Reseller or whatever they are called these days and have them take a look at it and see if a new battery/adapter is in charge. I wish my little Powerbook didn’t have these problems! GAH! Plus all technology hates me today, but that video is still in the editing portion so you should see it soon…

Hey YouTube – sorry it’s been so long since I’ve made a video. I still aim to upload atleast 1 video a week, but as I say in the video itself, I am extremely busy at the moment. It’s not that YouTube takes a back seat, it’s just that I don’t have time to do everything all at once. Sorry for any incoveneance and I will get back on track soon!
This video is an extremely simple race between my faithful White 2007 MacBook and the good old PowerMac G4 MDD 2002.

MacBook Specs:
2.16GhZ Intel Core 2 Duo
1GB DDR2 RAM
120GB HD
Mac OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leoard

PowerMac G4 MDD Specs:
Dual 1.0GhZ PowerPC G4
2GB DDR RAM
1 x 40GB HD (OS And App Drive)
1 x 80GB HD (Files and Backup)
Mac OS X 10.5.8

Both of these Mac’s are running the most up to date OS that they can handle.
This isn’t a 100% fair test, because I have different applications set to open at login on both machines. Also, both machines are plugged into many different peripherals.

Installing Leopard on iMac g4
Can I put Leopard on my Imac g4?

I just bought a Imac g4 online, but I am wondering why everyone is saying that you can out Leopard on it, and suddenly now you can’t, NOT SNOW leopard, but normal Leopard… The one I am getting is 800 MHZ and a 60 GB hard drive, if that isn’t enough I have another 60 GB hard drive also that is external that I can keep plugged into it, anyway, can I install Leopard on my Imac g4? If not is there anything I can do to upgrade it? I know there has to be, because If the Emac g4 can do it, the Imac can defiantly do it, lol

Minimum System Requirements
* Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
* 512MB of memory
* DVD drive for installation
* 9GB of available disk space

The 9GB of disk space is for the basic installation. If you do all the Software Updates that are now available for it, you will need 20GB of disk space.
To squeeze Leopard onto a computer with 800MHz processor, use LeopardAssist, link below.
It will run faster with Tiger. If you don’t have any pressing need for Leopard, get Tiger.

I’m no computer whiz, so I was wondering, would I be able to install OSX Leopard on My Powerbook G4, which uses a 1.67 GHz PowerPC processor?

Yes, Leopard will run on Macs with PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor.

Beige G3 Power Mac running OS X 10.5 Leopard!

For many months after the release of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, everyone thought that installing it on any Mac older than a G4 Sawtooth (the first AGP tower, still far below Apple’s official specification of an 867 MHz G4) was impossible. But finally, it has been done, and here you can see a Beige Power Macintosh G3 booting a fresh installation of Leopard (the retail build of course) for the first time. This is a Mac that originally came with Mac OS 8.0 back in 1997 (mine’s a late ‘98 model, from when the Pentium III was yet to be launched and Windows 98 had just come on the scene…) and Apple dropped OS support after 10.2.8 Jaguar for these OldWorld Macs without built-in USB or FireWire, but today we prove that the Beige G3 still has many many years of life ahead of it as it runs today’s latest and greatest, Mac OS X Leopard. As Apple say, “Add a new Mac to your Mac” with Leopard! It actually runs pretty well for such an old machine too!

(note that if you want to to this with your own Beige G3 you will need a G4 upgrade CPU for it, as Leopard was compiled by Apple without G3 support to try and cut off these awesome old machines and make Leopard an impossibility on them)

I HAVE SINCE SOLD THE IBOOK AFTER I POSTED THIS VIDEO, stop saying I paid too much. Ibook G4, 1.33GHz, 1.5GB of RAM, 80GB HDD, OS X Leopard. Bought it for $475 on eBay, with AppleCare.
