Powermac G4 Upgrade
G4 Power Mac tower, can I upgrade the AGP graphics?

I recently bought a dual core 533 mhz G4 PowerMac tower and it has AGP for graphics and I was wondering if the graphics card were upgradagle in those type of computers?
I should have been more clear, I was wondering if I can upgrade the current AGP graphics card to a better AGP graphics card.

if your asking if you can upgrade it to a PCI-E no well not without replacing the motherboard which basically would be upgrading it but you might need a new CPU but i don’t know much about MACs but i do know you can’t change the adapter slots

Can anyone tell me what this Laptop is like: Apple G3/800MHz iBook 12″ 640/30GB CD Drive?

There’s a lot of good information at the link below. As to what it’s good for, I’d say for just about anything that doesn’t involve video or graphics. Email, light word processing, etc., should all be fine.

But if you’re thinking about using a laptop for graphics, you shouldn’t be looking at one that came out five years ago!

iBook – PLEASE HELP!?

Can anyone tell me what this laptop is like: Apple G3/800MHz iBook 12″ 640/30GB CD Drive?

Adam’s absolutely right, that is a very old laptop. Graphics editing will be extremely slow, and it won’t be compatible with current software so you’ll have to find older versions. To top that the iBooks weren’t made to be graphics editing machines when they were new. They were the low-end laptop made for joe-average who just wanted to do some light surfing, email, write letters, balance their checkbooks etc… and this is old even for an iBook… the last iBook made was a 1.42 GHz G4 in 2005 (about three times as fast as the 800MHz G3)

I wouldn’t recommend using any iBook for graphics work, they just weren’t built for it. Try to find a Powerbook G4 (these were the pro series of the day, faster processor, better graphics cards, more VRAM, made for graphics work) and as Adam said minimum 1 GHz.

Try craig’s list in your area for cheap macs, the sellers on eBay know too much about what the Powerbooks are still worth.
