I have a 15" Powerbook G4, 800mhz, 40gb, 512mb laptop. When I turn it on it boots with a bright white screen without an apple logo on it. The Laptop doesn’t go past the white screen. This started happening after a hinge on the screen was replaced. What could be preventing my laptop from having the screen working?

The screen’s power and data cables run through the hinges, and this sounds like the data cable. Most likely this means that they either forgot to reconnect the cable when they replaced the hinge or it’s been damaged and is grounding out to the frame. If it worked briefly after your got it back then it’s probably pinched between two parts & the opening & closing of the screen has either damaged it or severed it. The only solution would be to have it taken apart and the cable checked.

There is a slim possibility that the two are unrelated… but it would surprise me…

Why is my Apple Powerbook G4 screen not working?
Why won’t my Mac turn on?

I have a Mac PowerBook G4. I updated my iTunes, and QuickTime. For QuickTime, it said that it would need to reastart to complete the installation. So I agreed to it and what ever. It turned off but didn’t restart automatically. So I went to turn it on and I heard the start up chime and the system workin but then it stopped. I tried like 10 times and it would always do that. My area is having a heat wave so I thought it just got over heated so I brought it into the ac and waited for it to cool down. It did and it worked. But then I needed to update the Mac software so I did and it said it was going to restart and whatever. The second time it restarted it did the same thing. I still heard the chime but not the apple screen. what do I do? do I need to take it to the apple store?? Or should I just wait till it responds??

Please tell us what you see on the screen.

Is it a black screen that stays black? Is it a lighted screen that stays lighted?

Restart and hold the option key for 30 seconds. Do you see anything at all?

Boot to the OS X Install DVD.
– Go past the language choice,
– Open Disk Utility.
– Select the “Macintosh HD”.
– Select the “First Aid” tab.
– Click the “Repair Disk” button.
– If it finds problems, repair again.
